Places to visit
Bali Asli – A must do on any trip to East Bali. Fantastic place for lunch, cooking class, or other food related tours in the Amlapura area www.baliasli.com.au (45 mins from Kubu).
Tirta Gangga – Lovely water garden built by the former King of Karangasem www.tirtagangga.nl (30 mins from Kubu).
Temple of Lempuyang Luhur – Beautiful Hindu Temple. Has become popular because of the ultimate Instagram shot through the 'Gates of Heaven' to Mount Agung (45 mins from Kubu).
Besakih Temple - Bali's most famous "Mother Temple" (1½ hours from Kubu).
Rumah Pohon (Tulamben) – Unique tourist attraction - literally translates to Tree House. Multi-level walkways and platforms made from bamboo and recycled materials. Has many peaceful areas to sit and have something to eat and drink and admire the views. They also have an interesting collection of birds. Great for kids (15 mins from Kubu).
White Sandy Beach/Virgin Beach (Bug Bug) - Great for a swim, lunch and beach massage (45 mins - 1 hour from Kubu).
Amed – Loads of beachfront restaurants and cafes. Great place for lunch and a snorkel, or simply to chill (25 mins from Kubu).
Les Waterfall – Small (non-touristy) waterfall about ½ hour walk (easy to moderate). It's worth accepting the offer of a guide who will tell you all about the area and plants along the way (30 mins from Kubu).
White water rafting – On either the Ayung River (easy) or Telagawaja River (rapids and small waterfall). Can be organised through Tulamben Transport for very reasonable rates. Allow a full day including lunch. (1½ hours from Kubu).
Muntigunnung trek - Run by a Swiss-Indonesian not-for-profit organisation, which is improving the lives of poor families in the Muntigunung area. Local women have been trained as guides taking you through some of the most stunning scenery in Bali. www.muntigunnung.com (45 mins to the trek start from Kubu).
Note: There are a number of tours run by the neighbouring resort listed in the information book in the villa, however they are expensive. If you would like to go to any of these places we suggest asking our driver Ricky to take you.
